The name

The Analects records that when the sage-king Yao ceded the throne to Shun, he left one charge: “The succession of Heaven rests upon you; hold faithfully to the centre.” In the Book of Documents, when Shun in turn passed the throne to Yu, that charge was unfolded into sixteen characters: the human heart is restless, the heart of the Way is faint; be discerning, be undivided, and hold faithfully to the centre.

Later generations called this the sixteen-character transmission of the heart. Its meaning is plain: what is entrusted must be held with sincerity and balance. It is China’s earliest teaching on fiduciary duty, and what was entrusted then was the world itself.

We took Zhi (执) and Yun (允) as our name, and we take the charge as our duty: to hold what a family entrusts to us in good faith, leaning to neither side.

zhí To hold · To bear What is taken on is carried through.
yǔn Sincere · Fair A word given is a word kept.

Raise one wealth gatekeeper for every family

Flourishing Tree is an independent family office; we build the safe architecture that holds a family’s wealth across borders and arrange the handover between generations. Architecture can keep the money, but not the people. So rather than manage a family’s fortune for it, we would rather raise one wealth gatekeeper from within: not a hired hand watching the accounts, but one of the family’s own, able to guard the enterprise and the capital as surely as the ties and the spirit. Once that keeper stands, a family can begin to live a life that is free, flourishing, and full of meaning.

Keep the estate Keep the kin Keep the compass

Every family, a keeper of its own.

生命体

A family is a living thing

Most people picture family wealth as a sum to be kept safe. We would rather see a family as something alive. It grows, it takes in and lets go, it takes wounds and heals them, and after a hard season it can die back and still put out new shoots. Wealth is one of its bloodlines, vital, but not the whole body. Families are often at their most fragile in good times, when rising wealth quietly lets the structure, the ground rules and the next generation wait for later. What succession tends to is the living thing itself, so that it goes on flourishing, one generation to the next.

Growth

Living through the cycles

A family has to outlast one generation’s luck and many turns of the cycle, sensing when to root down, when to bear the strain, and when to turn.

Metabolism

Health of the whole body

Its health is not read from the ledger alone, but in its people, its bonds and its character. When any one of them quietly wastes, that is an ailment.

Repair

Leaving room

Trouble always comes, so room is left in advance, a mistake absorbed, a member free to step back with dignity, a storm in one place kept from drowning the house; and it is settled in calm who decides on the day, and in what order things move.

Renewal

Holding the core

Businesses, homes and the way money is made may all turn over, yet a few things must not move, what the family believes and where its lines are drawn. That core is what makes beginning again possible.

时与界

Set every decision in a wide enough frame

A family is a living thing, and has to be tended on its own scale. The next few years are too short a frame. A family’s decisions belong in time measured by generations, and in space drawn to the whole globe.

20 years

One handover

The stretch you can see: who takes over, and how duty changes hands.

50 years

Two or three generations

The arc of a business, and whether wealth holds through the swings.

100 years

A family’s century

What truly lasts is culture and spirit, longer than any enterprise.

A frame this wide is held not by cleverness but by foresight and patience — the very quality that lets a family last beyond three generations.

六大资本

How we read a family

What a family truly hands down is never only money. Broken into parts, it is six kinds of capital. Industrial, financial and structural capital are the hard capital — visible, measurable, and definable in law and structure. Human, relational and spiritual capital are the soft capital — unseen, slow to build, impossible to transfer. Together, the six are a family’s legacy capital in full.

Hard capital

Visible, measurable, tradable, and definable in law and structure. It sets how strong a family is right now.

Industrial capital

The operating enterprise that generates cash flow and social standing. Whether the core business holds, where it sits in its cycle, whether new technology could displace it — this underwrites every other capital.

Financial capital

The financial assets and equity beyond the enterprise. Read in liquidity, duration, currency and volatility, it is the family’s reserve for crossing cycles.

Structural capital

The web of trusts, foundations, holdings and jurisdictions. Judged by insulation, portability and control, it decides whether wealth can pass down safely.

Soft capital

Unseen, hard to measure, impossible to transfer, built only through people and time. It sets how long a family can last.

Human capital

Each member’s mind, ability, health and leadership. This is where the capacity to succeed the founder grows; a healthy family is made of healthy individuals.

Relational capital

Trust within the family, and the network and advisers beyond it. Communication across generations, and a culture of fairness — its most fragile and most vital part.

Spiritual capital

The family’s values, mission and cultural memory. A shared charter, ritual and story: what sets the family apart, and tells its members why they are one family.

Structure is the hardware, keeping wealth safe; spirit is the software, helping people flourish. The two are complementary, and neither can be spared.

AI 与判断

Flourishing Tree in the age of AI

In the age of AI, what turns abundant is information and compute. What stays scarce is the judgement a hard case asks for, the trust that spans two generations, and a family’s willingness to place its whole life in your hands. These a machine cannot learn its way past. We encode into the machine what can be distilled, so judgement reaches deeper and faster; the trade-offs, the trust and the final signature we keep with people. AI amplifies human judgement — it does not replace it.

What matters more is compounding. No judgement we make for a family ends with the matter that occasioned it; each settles onto the ones before, so the next reading is truer, and the longer we keep watch, the more certainty a family holds. Further out, AI will become part of inheritance itself — a digital foundation belonging to one family alone, holding the choices of its generations and the reasons behind them. When the founder is gone, it remains, carrying a family’s judgement and character across the generations, still growing.

Judgement is scarce Judgement compounds Judgement stays human

来路

Our path

2017

Origins

The founding partners first worked side by side at a consulting partnership, structuring assets, tax and succession for a handful of families. What became Flourishing Tree took root in those years.

2019

Founded

The firm took shape as an independent family office, on one principle it has never bent: sell nothing, take no commission, answer only to the family.

2020

The Name

In January, organised as a partnership, the firm took its name. Zhiyun in Chinese, Flourishing Tree in English, the former drawn from the Book of Documents: hold faithfully to the balanced way.

Today

We walk with only a small number of families, and give each the whole of our attention. Scale has never been the measure we hold ourselves to.
